Rayner Essex publishes its first carbon footprint report

Demonstrating our commitment to responsible business and a sustainable future

At Rayner Essex, we believe success in business comes with responsibility — to our clients, our people, our communities, and the planet. Our approach to sustainability reflects the values at the heart of our firm: a commitment to act responsibly, support our stakeholders, and contribute to a future where people and businesses can thrive without compromising the world around us.

Our first carbon footprint & impact report

We are proud to release our 2025 Carbon Footprint & Impact Report, developed in partnership with carbon reporting specialists Ecologi. This report marks a key milestone in our sustainability journey and forms the baseline from which we will measure and improve our environmental performance.

The report provides a clear and transparent breakdown of our carbon emissions and highlights the tangible steps we have already taken to reduce our environmental impact including:

  • Switching to 100% renewable energy in our St Albans office
  • Transitioning to a paperless office firmwide
  • Installing energy-efficient lighting
  • Strengthening our recycling infrastructure
  • Evolving our hybrid working policy to reduce commuting emissions

Many of these initiatives have been in place for years, demonstrating that sustainability is embedded in our foundations, not added as an afterthought.

Why sustainability matters for business

As accountants, we are trained to identify and manage risk — and today, climate risk and ESG obligations are fast becoming business-critical. While formal carbon reporting regulations are not as yet required in the UK for many firms, pressure is growing from regulators, suppliers, investors, and employees to operate responsibly and transparently.

That’s why, each year, we will publish our carbon emissions and update on our progress against measurable reduction targets. This reflects our commitment to accountability, continuous improvement, and aligning our firm with globally recognised ESG principles, including several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our road to net zero

We know that the road to Net Zero is a long one — and while the goal may feel distant, it is only achievable through small, deliberate steps. By acting now, we aim not only to meet our own targets but also to influence and support others on the same journey.
