Remembering Lawrence Essex: founding Partner of Rayner Essex

The Partners are saddened to announce the passing of one of our founding Partners, Lawrence Essex.

Lawrence was not only a dedicated professional but also a cherished friend and mentor to many of us and who we held in such high regard.

Lawrence brought unwavering passion, intelligence, and kindness to everything he did. He always went above and beyond to support colleagues, share his expertise, and encourage growth and development within the firm.  His contribution to the ethos, style and function of Rayner Essex was key to the development of the firm that we have today and besides being a wonderful Partner, he was a lovely person, admired by us all for his wise counsel, steadfast personality and humour.

His legacy of professionalism and compassion will live on in all of us who had the privilege of working alongside him, and of course the legacy of his name above the door.

Lawrence qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Harrison Son Hill and Company where he met Alan Rayner and both subsequently left to start Rayner Essex together in 1967.  Lawrence retired as a Partner in 2005 and remained a consultant to the firm for a further five years.

We extend our deepest condolences to Lawrence’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
