Existing Furlough Scheme Extended

Over the weekend, the government has announced a new lockdown for England lasting for one month until the 2 December 2020.

 

As a result of this, the government have postponed the introduction of the Job Support Scheme (JSS) which was due to start 1 November 2020 and was meant to replace the existing Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), also known as the Furlough Scheme.

 

From 1 November 2020, there is an extension to the existing CJRS, Furlough Scheme, details and eligibility are as follows:-

 

  • Employees who were on the payroll as at 30 October 2020 will qualify. Employees who have not previously been furloughed under the CJRS can also be included
  • Flex-furlough claims can also be made, the same rules (since July 2020) are still in play
  • Scheme pays 80% of the employees’ wages/salary up to a cap of £2,500
  • Employer can choose to top up the salary to 100%.  Employer responsible for the NI and pension contributions
  • The JSS (Job Support Scheme) will apply once this extended CJRS furlough scheme ends in December
