“Historically I have been compared to a sponge – you’ll be glad to hear it doesn’t mean I am soft with holes but thirsty for information and able to absorb and retain until necessary!”

I head up the payroll team at the St Albans office. Our client’s come from various industry sectors and range from 1 employee to over 1,000. We provide a range of service levels so we can help as much or as little as required by the client. The payroll environment is constantly changing with the introduction of RTI, auto-enrolment and payrolling benefits all affecting processes and tasks we manage for clients. Every day brings new challenges and something new to learn. Flexibility and adaptability being paramount in all that we do.

I joined Rayner Essex in April 2015, and it’s been a busy and rewarding time. Together with the team we have grown our client base and worked on streamlining processes. It’s a busy department and quite often you are juggling and re-prioritising tasks. One minute I could be reviewing a payroll, then releasing a BACS payment, next assisting the team with a query, followed by liaising with a potential new client and the list goes on.

My career in payroll spans over 20 years. During this time I have studied with the CIPP since 2005, qualifying in 2013 with a BA (Hons) in Applied Business and Management. I pride myself on keeping up to date with upcoming legislation. Did I mention that I just reached my 10th anniversary as a Payroll Tutor with the CIPP in 2022? This provides even more opportunities to share knowledge and enthusiasm with other like-minded professionals.

I am married with two children and all three blokes in my life keep me on my toes. I enjoy holidaying, socialising and spending time with family. Catching up on soaps gives me a chance to get away from the seriousness of work and life in general!
